What is counselling using Play the Arts?
I am an integrative counsellor who uses play and the arts as my medium in practice, I use techniques from different models, such as drawing from John Bowlby and Donald Winnicott’s theories, Transitional Analysis, Gestalt and more, which I use depends on the individual child/ young person, because one size does not fit all. I also use Play and the Arts, such as: painting, drawing, movement, sand play, movement and music to support children and Young people to explore and express their feelings with.
How Play and Arts Therapeutic Counselling helps?
- Helps us to bring out the unexpressed and repressed emotions.
- Unexpressed emotions leads to a build up of stress hormone chemicals.
- Engages the right brain (the creative brain), then engages the left brain (the thinking brain) to make sense of feelings and sensations.
- Develop ability to see situations from different perspectives.
- It can be easier to communicate how you are feeling to express big feelings using Play or the Arts.
- Taps in to creativity and imagination.
- Discharges energy.
- Building of trusting relationship.
- Develop ability to reflect.
